Wonder’s New Original Series About Two Families Navigating Loss, Change, and the Emotional Complexities of Modern Life is Currently Streaming on Wonder Project’s Subscription on Prime Video

LOS ANGELES and AUSTIN, Texas — February 1, 2026 — The Kids Mental Health Foundation and Wonder Project today announced their collaboration on Wonder’s original family drama series It’s Not Like That, aligning the show’s exploration of grief, change, and emotional resilience with the Foundation’s mission to make mental health a vital part of every child’s upbringing.

At a time when the country continues to face a children’s mental health crisis, It’s Not Like That offers an honest portrayal of how children and families experience loss, transition, and uncertainty—and the conversations that can help them heal.

From Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson, known for beloved classics like Life As We Know It and Parenthood, the series blends modern family drama with themes of connection, second chances, and navigating life after major transitions.

It’s Not Like That premiered with its first two episodes on Sunday, January 25, 2026, on Wonder Project’s subscription on Prime Video in the U.S. Wonder Project is also currently sampling the first episode on Prime Video for all subscribers with a global release on Prime Video to follow at a later date.

The series follows Malcolm (Scott Foley), a recently widowed pastor raising three children, and Lori (Erinn Hayes), a newly divorced mother of two teens. Once inseparable family friends, their lives have shifted, and they must now navigate single parenthood, evolving identities, and the complexities of Malcolm being a modern-day pastor. Is this the beginning of a love story? It’s not like that. Or is it?

“At its core, this story recognizes that everyone—especially kids—are navigating something, whether it’s visible or unseen,” said creators Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson. “We wanted to portray family life with honesty and grace, including the emotional challenges children face when their world changes.”

The behavioral health experts at The Kids Mental Health Foundation say it’s important to think about prevention and promoting mental wellness in children before there is a crisis or a concern. However, new data from a national survey of parents, teachers, and coaches commissioned by Ipsos on behalf of the Foundation shows a significant gap in knowledge about how to build those skills. Only 35% of parents say they strongly agree that they know the daily habits needed to boost mental wellness.

“Adults want to proactively support the mental health of children, but many do not know how,” said Ariana Hoet, PhD, executive clinical director of The Kids Mental Health Foundation and a pediatric psychologist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. “That is where we come in. Our free resources equip and empower parents with the skills they need to build mental wellness in their kids. We are very grateful to partner with the Wonder Project and It’s Not Like That to help us create a world where mental health is just as important as physical health. Together, we have the opportunity to reach more families, normalize the children's mental health conversation, and increase confidence in building mental wellness.”

Extending the Conversation Beyond the Screen

As part of the collaboration, Wonder Project and The Kids Mental Health Foundation are developing companion resources including a family resource guide, to help parents, caregivers, and communities engage thoughtfully with the series’ themes. These initiatives are designed to encourage open dialogue around grief, resilience, and children’s mental health in age-appropriate and accessible ways.

It’s Not Like That was created by Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson, who also serve as showrunners alongside executive producer Garrett Lerner. Additional executive producers include Jon Erwin, Justin Rosenblatt, and Jon Gunn for Wonder Project, Scott Foley, Brad Silberling, Alex Goldstone (Dickinson) for 42 & Anonymous Content and Kingdom Story Company. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.

Additional cast includes J.R. Ramirez (David Soto), Caleb Baumann (Merritt Soto), Cary Christopher (Justin Jeffries), Leven Miranda (Flora Jeffries), Liv Lindell (Casey Soto), and Cassidy Paul (Penelope Jeffries).

New episodes will debut weekly on Sundays following the January 25 two-episode premiere on Wonder Project’s subscription on Prime Video.

The Wonder Project subscription on Prime Video is available in the U.S. for $8.99/month or $89.99/year. For additional details, visit www.thewonderproject.com.
