- Military-connected kids often face frequent moves, long separations and sudden transitions. Supporting their mental health requires structure, emotional availability and a sense of belonging.
- Routines can help create stability and a sense of security amid constant change.
- Validating kids' emotions, honoring their experiences and celebrating the strengths of military life (like adaptability and resilience) can build trust and promote long-term well-being.
- Trusted adults should watch for signs of stress like withdrawal, physical symptoms (e.g. stomachaches) or mood swings and act early by connecting families to specialized support.

Bread Financial’s Gift Fuels New Programs and Resources for Kids
Bread Financial's Impact
Bread Financial has been a long-time supporter of children and their health needs. They are a long-standing supporter of Nationwide Children's Hospital, the creator of The Kids Mental Health Foundation, and are helping to meet the changing needs of patients and families through investments in top talent, innovative research, advanced technologies, and cutting-edge facilities that foster healing. Bread Financial’s partnership with The Kids Mental Health Foundation now ensures that children everywhere have access to free, evidence-informed resources—breaking stigmas, starting conversations, and expanding awareness around kids’ mental health.
Bread’s gift also supported research on what programs and resources were needed for military-connected children's mental health. The Kids Mental Health Foundation Team conducted interviews, reviewed existing studies and audited other organizations' materials to determine what gaps exist. It culminated in a report, "Supporting the Mental Health Needs of Military-Connected Children," which highlights these important findings, including how kids can be better served through easily accessible resources for trusted adults like teachers and family members to support military children's mental health and wellness.
