Lucy Hale:
My life has taken me on a bit of a journey, you know. I moved to LA young, grew up quickly, struggled a lot in my twenties with, uh, alcoholism.
Drinking was the first thing I found that kind of turned my brain off and gave me some sort of mental peace. I think it also ties back to when I was a kid. I repressed a lot of emotions.
So when I found this friend in alcohol, if you will, I felt like it gave me an outlet to express what I was really feeling.
I'm a little over 4 years sober, so I definitely found a way that works for me. I have found ways to vocalize how I'm feeling. I found a way to not judge myself so harshly when I feel things I don't want to feel. And that, to me, is a miracle.
I mean, there was a time in my life where I was like, do I wanna live a life that feels like this? Like, it just felt so heavy. It felt like such a burden. Waking up and liking who I am and knowing that my choices align with my values every day is, like, such a gift.
What I love so much about the Kids Mental Health Foundation is that they're weaving mental health into the fabric of kids' lives. Mental health is everywhere. We all have it, whether you call it that or not. And I think just normalizing the conversation opens up a door of safety.
Kids' mental health starts with us. I support kids' mental health, and you can too at KidsMentalHealthFoundation.org.
