Primary Care Provider Guides

We know that parents come to you first when there’s a mental health concern. The Kids Mental Health Foundation created Primary Care Provider Guides to help you educate families and get them started on small interventions for their presenting concerns.

Providers say they are easy tools to add to their everyday practice.

Anxiety

For: Ages 6 and up with anxiety symptoms, for children and parents

Helps you teach families:

  • How avoidance causes anxiety to grow
  • How to start exposure for gradually facing anxiety triggers (since exposure therapy is one of the best treatments for anxiety)
  • Other tools to manage symptoms such as thought challenging and handling panic

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

For: Any age at diagnosis, materials geared towards parents

  • Recommended only when a child has been diagnosed
  • Targeted for the parents/caregivers than for the child

Helps you cover 3 potential action steps:

  • Behavior therapy
  • Medication
  • School supports
  • Includes additional resources

Depression

For: Ages 12 and up with depression symptoms, for children and parents
