NEW YORK CITY (Thursday, February 27) – Today, Emmy Award–winning talk show host and author Tamron Hall joined The Kids Mental Health Foundation (KMHF) for a visit with elementary school students at Neighborhood Charter Schools: Harlem to discuss the importance of mental health and kindness.
During the visit, Hall read from her forthcoming children’s book “Harlem Honey: The Adventures of a Curious Kid.” Inspired by Hall’s son, the book follows a child’s travels through one of the nation’s most celebrated neighborhoods and the places and people that make Harlem home.
KMHF is a nonprofit organization founded by Nationwide Children’s Hospital that provides free resources to help adults support children’s mental health. Hall and KMHF stopped by multiple classrooms to deliver mental health resources including conversation starter kits, kindness kits, and other activities like friendship bingo to promote well-being, kindness, and friendship.
“The Kids Mental Health Foundation is helping every child thrive. Joining them today and reading with students at Neighborhood Charter Schools: Harlem was inspiring as we discussed the power of kindness, understanding, and mental well-being," said Tamron Hall. "I wrote Harlem Honey with these students in mind and with all kids all across the country and their parents so they too can feel empowered to have these conversations."
“The visit today from Ms. Hall and The Kids Mental Health Foundation was an incredibly fun and meaningful experience for our entire school community," said Todd Soper, principal of Neighborhood Charter Schools: Harlem. “At our school, we talk about kindness and friendship daily, and this was a wonderful opportunity for our students to build on those lessons while also learning about the importance of mental health. We’re so grateful to Ms. Hall for joining us and taking the time to connect with so many of our students.”
Hall was joined by KMHF clinician Dr. Ijeoma Osigwe, a pediatric psychologist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Osigwe helped guide the discussion and lead activities with the students.
“It was wonderful to have Ms. Hall join our visit with the students at Neighborhood Charter Schools: Harlem. Having these open conversations with children about mental health and topics like friendship, kindness and identity is so important for their well-being,” said Dr. Osigwe. “We at KMHF are grateful to Ms. Hall and Neighborhood Charter Schools: Harlem for helping advance our mission to promote and support mental health for young people everywhere.”
